The Paradise Construction Company is a new collection of poetry by poet and translation-prize winner J.G. Nichols. A selection of his finest poems, it follows on from his previous collection The Flighty Horse (Liverpool University Press), and will be of great local interest to those living around Liverpool, Merseyside and the Wirral.
The ambiguity in the title of this collection hints at the ludic note which is so pervasive in it. This does not preclude engagement with serious issues, but, somewhat unfashionably, 'cheerfulness keeps breaking in', and the writer's touch is never heavy.
