An Independent Bookshop in the Heart of London
(also known as The Bookshop Theatre)
In 2000 John Calder opened the Calder Bookshop on the Cut. The bookshop is now undergoing a period of expansion. It specializes in literary fiction, poetry and drama, and hosts a variety of discussions, literary readings, film showings, music events and theatre performances. The shop is located near the Old Vic (and opposite the Young Vic) on 51 The Cut, close to Waterloo station. If you have never been there, please come along to browse our selection of books. On the day of the most unpredictable general election in living memory, John Calder introduces readings from some famous political orations of the past, including pieces by Winston Churchill, Franklin Roosevelt, Edmund Burke and Wolfe Tone. The readers are Tony Rohr and Oengus Macnamara.

John Calder discusses the life and work of Arthur Rimbaud (1854–91), the French symbolist poet who wrote some of the most remarkable verse and prose of the nineteenth century. The readers are Virginia Byron and Michael Howarth.
